Trauma/Tension/Stress Release Exercises

also known as T.R.E is an innovative series of exercises created by Dr. David Bercelli that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. Trauma occurs in many ways and has different effects and outcomes with people, but the one common thing with trauma is that it exists in everyone’s life at some point and becomes stored in the body. Pain isn’t just in our head, but also etched into our muscles.

The exercises safely activate a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. The body becomes encouraged to return back to a state of balance. This modality allows one to heal without having to relive the experience by verbally discussing it or giving details which can sometimes compound the trauma. During the TRE process, the fight, flight and freeze mechanism is shut down allowing the body to naturally shake and come back a state of balance.

TRE is designed as a self help tool that, once learned, can be used independently and with community as needed through one’s life. The feeling is pleasant and soothing with many people having feelings of peace and well being after.

TRE is accessible for all ages and introduced to younger people in a way that is engaging for them. This practice can be modified for people with physical injuries as well. It is guided in an adaptable way to meet people where they are at. Through your first experience of TRE my goal is to create a soft space for you to feel comfortable and curious about your body’s natural shaking mechanism. As you continue to engage with TRE, we open up the space for more modifications of the body’s tremors to take place.
